Poems from Living Here over 40 years
The Long Departed
by Sandy Olson
Ubiquitous Hydrangeas shade the graves of the long departed;
weather worn names of family, friends, and unknown soldiers;
reminders of wars and plagues long forgotten;
rough cold stones sun-dappled by creamy overarching flora.
Aging grand dames, gnarled of branch,
profuse in clusters, reflect still the bloom of bygone days.
